Andorran Family Business Forum (EFA)
During the 22nd Andorran Family Business Forum (EFA), held 29/11/2024 in Soldeu, EFA President Daniel Armengol emphasized the need for both the government and the population to take an active role in anticipating the challenges facing the country in the area of economic digitalization. Armengol expressed concern over the lack of measures to prepare the Principality for economic and technological challenges.
Regarding the future decision on association with the European Union, he stated that it must ensure “a balance that protects the interests of the economy and business while not forgoing opportunities.”
Armengol also mentioned the need for economic diversification and explained that the market should be the one to generate the economy. He stressed the importance of having clear regulations and public-private cooperation for developing projects such as the creation of a logistics industrial zone, promoting the existing airport, and developing new sectors that complement traditional ones.
The conference as a whole was dedicated to analyzing the role of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for transforming the country’s business structure. The Secretary of State for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications, Marc Rossell, stated in his speech that “Andorra is currently making great strides in the digitalization of governance” and that in just three years, the country has risen significantly in European rankings of digital economy and cybersecurity.
Among recent successes, he mentioned the establishment of the Data Analysis Agency, a key tool for optimizing data use and facilitating its application in companies and organizations, which allows for improved decision-making processes. According to Rossell, this agency creates a foundation that encourages the practical use of AI to enhance business efficiency and innovation.
Despite the progress, Rossell emphasized the need for responsible regulation that meets European standards to ensure that the implementation of this technology occurs safely and ethically.
